CPD
Mission: To ensure the health and safety of Bandits (and others!), create a healthy environment within company area and to be a trusted, confidential resource for those in need.
USMA PEER SUPPORT STATEMENT:
Previously, USMA has had the Peer Support Program (PSP) which consists of Second-Class Cadets that provide counseling to fellow cadets that reach out for this service. Otherwise, there has not been a strong presence of mental health knowledge or knowledge of the resources available to cadets at West Point. Additionally, there are many stigmas of both individuals in need of mental health attention and the Center for Personal Development (CPD) itself. As future leaders in the United States Army, our knowledge of approaching/acting in situations dealing with mental health issues and how to share our institution’s mental and behavioral health resources is equally as important as our knowledge of the SHARP and EO programs. Empathy, understanding, and acceptance are vital characteristics of any leader and to any team. It is the goal of the PSP to be the subject matter experts on mental health for our classmates and to educate the Corps of Cadets on the many facets of mental health, resiliency, and empathy.
